Mr. Noel Gaspard
The first thing that you notice about Noel Gaspard is his cheery personality and confidence. When asked to be interviewed for this employee profile, he willingly agreed, which was unexpected since Mr. Gaspard is a busy Crane Operator at Port Castries and time is very precious and limited.
It was evident that Mr. Gaspard was very comfortable in his surroundings sitting on the crane with an air of confidence, willing to answer all questions that pertained to him and his job. His manner of professionalism was exuded in the way he spoke so passionately about his job and the vivid descriptions of his experience as an equipment and crane operator.
Mr. Gaspard joined SLASPA in 1987 as an Equipment Operator. He left the Authority in 1993 in pursuit of personal development and other professional opportunities. However, his love for his work with SLASPA would have him return in 2000 where he has held the position of Crane Operator.
When asked what he liked about his job and working at Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), Mr. Gaspard responded that he enjoys the different challenges that come with the job, such as learning how to use new equipment and he likes the dynamism of the organization. Not to mention the various opportunities working in this environment presents and the camaraderie shared with his fellow colleagues. Mr. Gaspard also stated that the working environment was one of togetherness because everyone is encouraged to partake in various activities within the organization.
Another question that was put forward to Mr. Gaspard was ‘what were his major accomplishments in his job thus far?’ He replied that being able to meet the great demands of SLASPA and developing the ability to discharge a vessel at the rate of 30 – 40 containers an hour were his two greatest accomplishments. In addition, he has had to train persons in other islands on the use of equipment and is highly sought after by clients who want him to clear their containers.
Now, we all know that no one is an absolute work-o-holic, so when the question of personal interests and family came up, Mr. Gaspard beamed with pride in talking about his other passions, which include various sporting activities such as Cricket where he is the captain of SLASPA’s cricket team, travelling, especially to Trinidad and Tobago and building a good family life. He also spoke highly of his wife of ten (10) years who has supported him through his tenure at SLASPA and his three children as he affectionately called them his “lovely pearls” ages nine (9), six (6) and fifteen (15) months.
Finally, when asked what gets him through the day, Mr. Gaspard stated that he seeks spiritual guidance in all that he does.
Cheers to Mr. Gaspard on all his achievements within the organization!
