Asha James joined SLASPA as the Legal Officer/Corporate Secretary in 2018.  Her responsibilities include providing legal counsel and corporate governance advice to Management and Port Council of the Authority on a broad range of issues including employment, construction and project-finance issues.

Ms. James has over 10 years’ experience in commercial and financial law and in-house legal practice. Prior to holding this position, Ms. James was Executive Manager of Legal Services and Corporate Secretary to a commercial bank in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.  Additionally, Ms. James’ career includes a teaching role, as a lecturer of Business Law, Contract Law and Legal Writing and Research, at the University of the West Indies (Open Campus), publication of several articles and the deliverance of lectures related to corporate and finance law and corporate governance, in the Eastern Caribbean.

Ms. James holds a first degree in Law (LL.B) and a Master’s Degree (LL.M), in Corporate and Commercial Law with Distinction from University College London (UCL), in London England. She has also obtained the Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Training for the Bar, from BPP Law School in London, England and the Legal Education Certificate (LEC) from Hugh Wooding Law School, in Trinidad and Tobago.

Ms. James has been admitted to practice law in the United Kingdom, Trinidad and Tobago, Commonwealth of Dominica and Saint Lucia.
