Senior Manager - Airports

Amy Charles

Responsible for overseeing airport operations and air navigation services, fostering continuous improvement, collaboration, and resilience within Saint Lucia’s aviation sector.

Amy Charles is the Senior Manager–Airports at the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), with overall responsibility for both of Saint Lucia’s airports. A distinguished aviation professional, she brings over four decades of dedicated service to the organization and to the development of the island’s air transport sector.

Ms. Charles began her career at SLASPA in January 1984, shortly after its establishment, becoming the organization’s first airport employee. She started in the Aeronautical Information Services office before transitioning to Air Traffic Control (ATC), a field that became her professional passion. She served Saint Lucia with distinction as an Air Traffic Control Officer for more than 30 years.

In addition to her technical expertise, Ms. Charles has been a strong advocate for employee rights. She served as Shop Steward for 25 years, representing SLASPA’s airport employees under the Civil Service Association.

Her leadership journey continued when she accepted, albeit reluctantly, the role of Manager–Air Traffic Services in 2015, moving from the operational airport setting to SLASPA’s Headquarters in Castries. She was confirmed in that role in 2017 and later appointed Manager–Air Navigation Services in 2021. Following the retirement of the former Director of Airports, Ms. Charles assumed the role in an acting capacity in September 2022 and was confirmed in the post in May 2023.

Ms. Charles is a natural leader and team player who is widely respected for her integrity, objectivity, and commitment to service. She is deeply invested in the advancement of aviation in Saint Lucia, with a strong focus on infrastructure development, regulatory compliance, and human resource capacity building. She actively supports training initiatives and maintains strong engagement with key international aviation partners, including ICAO, IATA, and ACI.
